WHY UP-SKILL TO EV.

As a qualified electrician you probably know and understand the process of installing an Electric Vehicle Charge Point, BUT having the EV qualification will give you some significant benefits.

At domestic properties you can claim for up to 2 installed charge points, at commercial properties this rises to 40 charge points. To take advantage of this, you will need to be on the OLEV register, to do that, you need the EV charging qualification.

What Does the Course Cover?

  • Introduction to Electric Vehicles

  • Electric Vehicle types, Characteristics, Charging requirements, Safety considerations

  • Modes of charging and requirements, restrictions

  • Electrical Installation Requirements

  • Supply, Earthing, Planning permission, Explosive atmospheres, Protection, Labelling, Control, Risk assessment

  • Practical domestic and commercial installation

  • Inspection, Test and Certification

  • Commissioning and DNO paperwork

  • System Test, Fault Finding and Examination

  • Includes both a practical and written assessments


The course is based around the IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation 4th Edition. Along with with the requirements of BS7671 2018 and Electricity Safety Quality Continuity Regulations 2002, design and installation requirements, earthing specifications, covering installations for dwellings, on-street charging, commercial and industrial installations.

This course covers the installer to install both Domestic and Commercial charge points.

This course is designed for experienced electricians and installers who are looking to enhance their current skill and knowledge to allow them to install domestic, commercial and “on street” vehicle charging points, It is advisable that candidates have Inspection & Testing knowledge and are able to correctly install and terminate pvc/pvc cable (twin and earth) and Steel Wire armoured cable (swa). 

A knowledge of the different earthing installation requirements i.e. TT, TNS, TNCS and the ability to carry out an Initial Verification (inspection & testing) on an electrical installation and complete the necessary paperwork are all basic prerequisites. 

These competencies are required for the assessment and are not taught as part of the course.

It is expected that candidates possess a relevant trade qualification and/or have a working knowledge of the electrical industry and already have an understanding of The Electrical Wiring Regulations BS7671-18 Eighteenth Edition.

Each application is considered on individual merit; however formal qualifications may not be required dependant on experience.
