The NVQ 2346-03 Experienced Worker Assessment was introduced in 2020 as a successor to the hugely popular NVQ 2356-99 ‘Mature Candidate Assessment’.

Just like its predecessor this qualification is suitable for both self-employed and employed electricians who have worked in the electrotechnical industry for a minimum of 5 years (not including time spent in full or part-time training) but have not formally completed an industry apprenticeship or equivalent Level 3 NVQ qualification.

You will require a minimum of a Level 2 NVQ.

A prospective candidate will need to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and competence to the standard of the Level 3 electrotechnical apprenticeship.

There is a Skills Scan at the start of the process to assess this, followed by Candidate Background Form to be completed before commencement.

To complete the whole Experienced Worker Assessment, you will need to:

Complete the C&G 2346 NVQ Portfolio
Complete an AM2E Assessment.
Have an up-to-date Wiring Regulations qualification
Have an Initial Verification Inspection and Testing Qualification such as the C&G 2391-52

Upon successful completion of the above you will be eligible to apply for a JIB Gold Card. We can offer both the installation and maintenance variants of this qualification at your request. This qualification is not suitable for new entrants to the electrotechnical industry, or for apprentices, or for those who have completed an electrotechnical technical qualification with less than five years relevant experience as an electrician. If you have been working in the Electrotechnical industry for over 5 years and have not completed an industry apprenticeship or equivalent Level 3 NVQ, then this route is for you. It is suitable for both employed and self-employed persons within the industry. The key benefit of this route is that you existing qualifications, skills and experience can count towards the qualification, and you therefore only need to fill in the gaps.

Unit 102 – Health, Safety and Environmental Considerations

Aim – This unit is designed to enable learners to develop the skills and apply the relevant knowledge associated with Health and Safety legislation, practices and procedures when installing and maintaining electrical systems and equipment.

Be able to apply relevant Health and Safety legislation in the workplace

Assessment criteria

identify which workplace Health and Safety procedures are relevant to the working environment and comply with their duties and obligations as defined by current legislation and organisational procedures
produce a risk assessment and method statement in accordance with organisational procedures for a given work activity

Learning Outcome 2

Be able to assess the work environment for hazards and identify remedial actions in accordance with Health and Safety legislation

Evidence Requirements

Learning Outcomes 1 to 4: Auditable evidence sourced from a real working environment must be provided to illustrate that, the learner has demonstrated on two separate occasions they can apply Health and Safety legislation and working practices when Installing and Maintaining Electrical Systems and Equipment in accordance with approved industry practices, statutory and non-statutory regulations and the assessment criteria for each of the learning outcomes.

In this unit, the learner is subject to direct observation on at least two separate occasions in the workplace by a qualified assessor. Reflective accounts will not be accepted as evidence for this unit. Any outstanding performance criteria that are not met through the direct observation must be supplemented by alternate evidence provided by the employer.

Unit 106 – Organise and Oversee the Electrical Work Environment

Aim – This unit is designed to enable learners to develop the skills required, and apply the associated knowledge so that they can demonstrate that they can implement practices and procedures for overseeing and organising the work environment for the installation of electrical systems and equipment.

Learning Outcome 1

Be able to provide relevant people with technical and functional information for work on electrical systems and equipment

Assessment criteria

liaise with relevant people to evaluate the information they require to ensure that systems, equipment or components can be operated safely and effectively
identify appropriate technical and functional information that is required for the work activity
provide information in a timely, courteous, suitable and professional manner in accordance with organisational procedures and engineering standards.

Learning Outcome 2

Be able to oversee Health and Safety during work on electrical systems and equipment

Assessment criteria

produce, or revise generic, risk assessments and method statements, to cover their own work and others working the area (colleagues and other operatives) in accordance with their level of responsibility
implement suitable procedures to confirm that work is being completed in accordance with Health and Safety legislation and industry standards.

Learning Outcome 3

Be able to co-ordinate liaison with other relevant persons during work activities

Assessment criteria

select effective procedures to ensure coordination with other workers/contractors, including steps to resolve issues which are outside the scope of their job role

Unit 108 – Terminate and Connect Conductors

Aim – This unit is designed to enable the learner to develop the skills required, and apply the associated knowledge, in order that they are able to demonstrate the competence required to terminate and connect conductors and cables in electrical systems in accordance with approved industry practices, statutory and non-statutory regulations:

Unit 113 – Inspect, Test and Commission Electrical Systems

carry out a visual inspection in accordance with the requirements of the installation specification, BS 7671 and IET Guidance Note 3

assess and verify that replacement components and associated equipment maintain:
1. ease of access to enable future maintenance
2. compliance with relevant regulations

apply appropriate procedures to ensure electrical equipment and components are left safe, in accordance with industry regulations, if the fault cannot be corrected immediately based on technical assessment
establish and perform an appropriate inspection and testing procedure to confirm that circuits / equipment / components are functioning correctly after completion of fault correction work
record test results and other appropriate information regarding the fault correction work clearly and accurately and report it to relevant people. Assess one of the following:
